The pro version should have access to 24 frames so why not try that out first and then upgrade if you enjoy it? The only difference in animation w EX is that you have relatively unlimited frames to work with instead of being capped at 24. Sometimes wacky shit happens that you think shouldn't but every animation software has that one thing where you're like "why is it doing that, who the hell programmed this". It has a fairly different animation UI than other softwares, which turns a lot of people off when trying it out because they don't bother learning their way around it and give up quickly. Good work can be done if you know what you're doing. I also use Vector Layers a lot for illustration. I use krita focused on practicing animation, since it is very comfortable to use the Timeline and the Onion-Skin. I'd say don't underestimate using it for animation. Krita has turned out to be the easiest and most intuitive program to use that I have tried.
